GTA VI has crossed an important line. Before August 27, the cleanest picture came from Rockstar’s trailers, character dossiers, location pages and release information. The Extended Look now adds sustained in-game PS5 footage, while years of reporting and community investigation still sit around that official core. This page is the living master file: official facts are treated as the baseline, credible reporting is labeled, historical leaks are kept in development context, and fan theories stay theories.
Release date: November 19, 2026
Rockstar’s current launch date is November 19, 2026. Earlier windows and delays belong to the development timeline, not the current launch target.
Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are the announced launch platforms. Rockstar has not announced PS4 or Xbox One versions, and a commercial Windows PC date remains unannounced.
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos lead the story
Jason and Lucia are the center of GTA VI. Rockstar’s official premise says an easy score goes wrong and pulls them into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. The Extended Look makes their partnership mechanical as well as narrative by showing active character switching during mission flow.
Leonida is bigger than Vice City
Vice City is the cultural center, but Rockstar has officially named the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The state spans dense urban streets, islands, wetlands, industry, smaller communities and wilderness.
The Extended Look is now the strongest gameplay baseline
Rockstar says the August 27 presentation was captured from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. It shows driving, combat, pursuits, character switching, interiors, water activities, recreation and everyday interactions with much more continuity than the trailers.
Character switching is confirmed in active sequences
The showcase demonstrates switching between Jason and Lucia during action. The exact restrictions still depend on mission context, but the system itself is no longer a leak-derived assumption.
The Wanted system appears deeper
The HUD and pursuit footage show a more involved police layer, including a six-star scale visible in analysis of the presentation. Exact rules around witnesses, cameras, vehicle tracking and identification remain partly dependent on preview reporting and should not all be promoted to official fact yet.
NPC behavior is one of the biggest visible upgrades
Leonida is crowded, but density is only half the story. NPCs film events, react, flee, argue and continue routines. The Extended Look strengthens the case that Rockstar is building a city around behavior rather than simply increasing population counts.
Activities go far beyond missions
The showcase includes gyms, water exploration, kayaking, jet skis, fanboats, parachuting, racing, mini golf and ordinary social downtime. The message is that Leonida is designed to be inhabited between jobs.
Interiors matter more than raw map size
Homes, businesses, clubs and other enclosed spaces appear repeatedly. Rockstar has not said every building is enterable, but the official footage strongly supports a denser interior philosophy than GTA V’s open world.
Vehicles appear more persistent and physical
Driving looks heavier, crashes create stronger chain reactions and vehicle interiors receive more attention. Preview reporting also points toward garages, personal vehicles and trunk-based equipment storage, though exact persistence and inventory rules still need formal documentation.
Body condition and lifestyle systems appear to return
Preview coverage around the Extended Look describes weight and fitness changing through food and exercise, while gyms and lifestyle activities are visible in the presentation. Exact stat effects remain to be confirmed.
Social media remains central to modern Vice City
Trailer 1 established a world constantly filming itself. The Extended Look keeps phones, feeds and public spectacle embedded in everyday life, making social media part of the setting rather than a one-trailer joke.
The supporting cast forms a network
Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez and Raul Bautista connect the protagonists to smuggling, music, property, nightlife and professional robbery. Rockstar’s character rollout suggests a social web rather than isolated mission-givers.
The 2022 leak is historical development evidence
The September 2022 breach exposed early development footage and confirmed that many ideas existed years before release. Those clips remain useful for development history, but they cannot prove a feature survived unchanged into the final game.
The August 2026 Cyberleek wave is a different category
A new wave of reported unauthorized material appeared immediately before the Extended Look, followed by legal reporting around Take-Two’s attempts to identify accounts and obtain platform data. Authentic-looking leaked material still needs build-date and completeness warnings.
The map reconstruction is sophisticated but unofficial
GTAForums and other mapping communities have triangulated roads, skylines, coastlines and landmarks from official media and reported material. Their work can be excellent analysis, but Rockstar still has not published a complete official street map or exact square-mile figure.
Project Americas is part of the historical rumor trail
Long-running reporting and leak-era discussion used the Project Americas name and fueled theories about Caribbean travel. The official 2026 material confirms Leonida, not a playable Cuba, Bahamas analogue or second country.
GTA VI Online remains unanswered
A GTA VI-era multiplayer product is an obvious business expectation after GTA Online, but Rockstar has not yet published its final name, launch date, player structure or GTA+ relationship. Expectations are not a product announcement.
PC remains a future question
Development on computer hardware, leaked tools and retailer placeholders do not equal a PC release. A real announcement will name Windows or a PC storefront and provide an official release window.
Performance modes are not official yet
The Extended Look gives us a PS5 visual target, but Rockstar has not formally announced 30 FPS, 60 FPS or console-specific performance modes. Technical analysis should remain analysis until specifications are published.
Campaign length is not officially published
Numbers such as an 80-hour story circulate in preview roundups and community discussion. Rockstar has not published an authoritative campaign-length figure.
A morality or honor meter is not confirmed
World reactivity does not automatically mean GTA VI has a Red Dead-style honor system. Rockstar has not publicly defined one.
The final map boundary remains unknown
We know the named regions and can infer a great deal from official geography, but exact world boundaries, inaccessible buffers and any surprise areas remain unrevealed.
The biggest launch question is mission freedom
The showcase proves density and ambition. It cannot prove how often missions allow multiple solutions, how persistent consequences are or how much of the world remains interactable outside scripted sequences.
The GTA VI picture as it stands
The hard facts are now substantial: November 19, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Jason and Lucia, a state-sized Leonida with multiple named regions, active character switching, a large supporting cast and an Extended Look captured from in-game PS5 footage. Around that core sit credible reports about deeper inventory, lifestyle and pursuit systems, historical leak evidence, community map reconstruction and unresolved theories about PC, Online, Caribbean travel, campaign length and final world scale. That separation is the key to understanding GTA VI without turning excitement into fake certainty.
September 3, 2026 update: what materially changed
Four additions now belong in the reference baseline. Rockstar still lists November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; the official screenshot gallery has expanded to 99 images; Netflix says An Extended Look drew 31.1 million views and led its English film chart for the week; and post-show developer interviews added direct detail about Criminal Profile, safehouses, Jason and Lucia’s relationship layer, and some of the friction involved in stealing vehicles.
Four large questions remain unpublished: a PC release date, a GTA VI Online launch plan, Rockstar’s complete world map, and the final console graphics-mode specification. Treating an information gap as an information gap is part of keeping this page useful rather than filling it with predictions.
