GTA VI rumor culture is now a mixture of old reporting, 2022 development evidence, August 2026 leak claims, forum reconstruction and theories born from the Extended Look. The useful way to follow it is not to ask whether a rumor sounds exciting. Ask what kind of evidence it has.
Strongly supported: Jason and Lucia character switching
This moved from leak-era expectation to official evidence. The Extended Look shows active switching, so the debate is now about restrictions and mission design rather than whether the mechanic exists.
Strongly supported: a denser interior-heavy world
Official footage repeatedly enters homes, businesses and other enclosed spaces. The claim that every building is enterable remains false certainty, but a stronger interior focus is now visible.
Reported: deeper weapon and vehicle storage
Preview reporting describes equipment stored in trunks and safehouses. This fits Rockstar’s recent design language, but exact inventory capacity and persistence rules are not yet formally published.
Reported: weight and fitness systems
Coverage around the showcase describes physical condition changing with food and exercise. Gyms are visible, but the full stat model remains unknown.
Reported: an approximately 80-hour story
The number appears in preview discussion but is not an official Rockstar campaign-length claim. Treat it as reported, not a promise.
Unconfirmed: a Red Dead-style honor or morality system
Reactive NPCs and persistent consequences can exist without a named morality meter. No formal Rockstar confirmation currently establishes one.
Unconfirmed: playable Cuba or Bahamas-style islands
Project Americas history, Caribbean geography and criminal themes keep this theory alive. Rockstar’s official map information currently confirms Leonida, not another country or major external island region.
Unconfirmed: the leaked map is the complete final map
Forum mappers can compare geography with extraordinary precision, but leaked map imagery may come from an incomplete build or story state. Rockstar has not published the final road map.
Unconfirmed: exact square-mile claims
Any precise final size claim is premature without an official map boundary or release build. Camera perspective, inaccessible areas and changed geography make trailer measurement unreliable.
Unconfirmed: guaranteed 60 FPS on console
The Extended Look is a PS5 target reference, not a technical specification sheet. Rockstar has not announced console performance modes.
Unconfirmed: PC launches alongside consoles
The official launch platforms remain PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Development on PC hardware does not change that.
Unconfirmed: GTA VI Online launches day one
Multiplayer is commercially expected by many fans, but Rockstar has not published the next online product’s date or structure.
Historical: Project Americas
The name belongs to the long development-reporting trail and helped shape years of fan expectations. Modern official material should outrank old scope claims whenever they conflict.
Historical: the 2022 development leak
The 2022 footage is authentic development history, but features visible there may have changed, been cut or been rebuilt. It should not be used as a 2026 launch checklist.
Current leak watch: August 2026 Cyberleek claims
Reported footage and map material circulated before the Extended Look. The safest approach is to record what reputable reporting says without re-hosting unauthorized files and without assuming every clip belongs to the same build.
Forum watch: GTAForums mapping project
The mapping community remains one of the most technically useful fan efforts because it documents landmark matching and revises placements as new evidence appears. Its map is analysis, not an official Rockstar asset.
Reddit watch: post-Extended Look system theories
Community discussion is now focused on police identification, body condition, vehicle persistence, interior access, relationship mechanics and hidden map regions. These conversations are valuable for finding questions; they are not primary sources for confirmation.
The rule for every new rumor
Official Rockstar material outranks everything. Named, attributable reporting comes next. Development leaks can establish that something existed in a build. Anonymous forum claims and social posts remain unconfirmed until stronger evidence appears.
How to use this tracker without promoting rumors
The Extended Look killed some old rumors by replacing them with official footage, strengthened others by showing the same design direction and left the biggest mysteries untouched. PC, Online, final map boundaries, performance modes, campaign length, morality systems and any world beyond Leonida remain the categories where certainty should still be resisted.
Rumor status on September 3
The Extended Look and developer interviews strengthened several evidence chains, but the internet is still filling four major gaps with prediction: the PC date, the structure and timing of GTA VI Online, final graphics modes, and the exact map boundary. Rockstar has not published final answers to those questions.
Meanwhile, several ideas that used to sit closer to theory now have stronger support: Criminal Profile, a relationship layer for Jason and Lucia, more interactive safehouses, and tools required for some vehicle thefts. When a claim moves from rumor to developer statement or primary-source evidence, we reclassify it rather than keeping it in the rumor bucket for traffic.
