GTA VI is no longer a game people are only waiting to hear about. It is now a product people can actually buy, and that changes the conversation. Rockstar and Take-Two opened preorders on June 25, 2026, with a November 19 launch date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official announcement also settled several details that had been floating around as speculation for months: the base price, the existence of an Ultimate Edition, the preorder bonus structure, the preload window and what the physical release actually contains.
The Standard Edition is the complete base game
The Standard Edition is priced at $79.99 in the United States before any regional taxes or store-specific differences. That edition is the core single-player GTA VI experience. Nothing in Rockstar’s announcement suggests that the campaign is locked behind the Ultimate Edition or that buying the more expensive version is required to experience Jason and Lucia’s main story. For most players, that makes the Standard Edition the cleanest starting point: the game itself, with the normal preorder benefits if purchased before launch.
Ultimate Edition costs more because it adds premium content
The Ultimate Edition is listed at $99.99. Rockstar describes it as adding an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and other content threaded across Jason and Lucia’s story. That wording matters. It tells us the upgrade is not merely a soundtrack, digital art book or cosmetic menu badge; Rockstar is positioning the extras as content that appears across the single-player experience. At the same time, the announcement does not say the base campaign becomes incomplete without them. The real buying question is therefore whether those extras are worth the additional twenty dollars to you.

Every preorder comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack
Rockstar says all GTA VI preorders — and purchases made before November 20, 2026 — include the Vintage Vice City Pack. The pack is built around a retro Vice City theme, with items intended to evoke the city’s neon-heavy past. Because the promotion is tied to the timing of the purchase, it should be treated separately from the permanent difference between Standard and Ultimate. In other words, preorder bonuses are not the same thing as edition bonuses. You can buy the Standard Edition and still qualify for the preorder pack if you purchase within the published window.
Digital preorders also include a month of GTA+
Digital preorders include one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service for GTA Online. That benefit is redeemable before GTA VI launches, so players can use it with the current GTA ecosystem rather than waiting until November. It is useful, but it should not be confused with confirmation of a GTA VI online mode. Rockstar’s preorder release talks about GTA+ as an existing service and access point for GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library. It does not use the preorder announcement to reveal how online play will work in GTA VI.
Preloading starts November 12
Players who preorder a digital copy will be able to begin preloading on November 12, one week before the November 19 launch. That is especially relevant for a release expected to generate enormous download demand. Rockstar also says the physical version will be available starting November 12 to support preloading. The important detail is that the announced physical package contains a download code inside the box rather than a traditional playable disc. Anyone buying physical because they specifically want disc-based ownership should read the retailer listing carefully before ordering.

Your real price depends on your region
The U.S. prices are useful reference points, but they are not universal. PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar’s own store and retail partners can show different totals depending on country, currency, VAT or sales tax. Imported codes can also be region-restricted. The safest buying method is to check the storefront tied to the account you will actually use. A cheaper code is not a bargain if it cannot be redeemed in your region, and a screenshot from another country is not a reliable substitute for the price displayed in your own store.
What has not been announced with the editions
The preorder announcement is detailed about price, bonuses and preload timing, but it does not answer every launch question. Rockstar has not used it to explain a future GTA VI online component, PC release timing, post-launch expansions or the long-term monetization model. Those subjects remain separate. It is easy for store pages to become a magnet for speculation, so the clean rule is simple: treat the edition contents that Rockstar listed as confirmed, and treat everything else as open until the company publishes it.

Standard or Ultimate: who should buy what?
If your priority is simply playing GTA VI on day one, Standard is the rational default. If you already know that premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and extra story-linked items are the kind of content you value, Ultimate may justify the additional cost. There is no need to make the decision based on fear of missing the main campaign. The official wording supports a complete base game with an optional premium layer on top. And because preloading begins a full week before launch, there is also no technical reason to rush months early simply to make sure the game is downloaded in time.
What buyers should take from the edition lineup
The important facts are now straightforward: GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; Standard is $79.99 in the U.S.; Ultimate is $99.99; qualifying purchases include the Vintage Vice City Pack; digital preorders include a month of GTA+; and preloading begins November 12. Those are the details worth using to make a purchase decision. Everything beyond them should stay labeled as speculation until Rockstar says otherwise.
