The Leonida Keys look like the place Jason might go if he wanted the world to leave him alone — which is exactly why they work so well as the place where trouble already knows his name. Rockstar presents the Keys as tropical, open and almost postcard-perfect: long bridges, blue water, boats, small islands and low coastal roads. But Jason’s biography gives the scenery a second identity. Beneath the vacation image sits an older smuggling culture and a network of people who have been moving product through the region long enough to treat crime like part of the local economy.
Jason’s story gives the Keys narrative weight
Rockstar says Jason ended up in the Keys after his time in the Army, working around local drug runners. That makes this region more than a scenic detour. It is the place where one of GTA VI’s protagonists already has history, obligations and people who know what he is capable of. The larger conspiracy may stretch across Leonida, but Jason’s part of the story begins on much smaller roads.

Brian Heder belongs to the old smuggling world
Brian’s official profile describes a man from the golden age of smuggling who is still moving product through his boat yard. He also gives Jason somewhere to live, provided Jason helps with local shakedowns. That relationship instantly makes the Keys feel socially dense. Jason is not simply spawning into a region. He is living inside somebody else’s network.
Water defines how the region looks
Official images show boats, marinas, bridges, shallow water, aircraft and island roads. Even before Rockstar explains the gameplay systems, the environment suggests that water travel will matter more here than it does in central Vice City. What is not confirmed is the exact depth of boat ownership, fishing, diving, cargo or other water-based activities. The geography supports those possibilities; it does not confirm them.
The bridges can turn distance into atmosphere
Long causeways are not only functional connections. They can become pacing tools. Driving across open water after leaving a dense city can make the world feel like it is changing in real time. If Rockstar uses the Keys well, the travel itself may become part of the experience rather than empty road between mission markers.

The contrast with Vice City is the point
Vice City is vertical, crowded and bright. The Keys are low, open and exposed. That contrast gives GTA VI a chance to shift mood without leaving the same state. The same police chase, conversation or robbery can feel completely different when there are fewer streets, more water and longer sight lines.
Jason’s local relationships may make the region feel personal
Brian Heder and Cal Hampton give the Keys faces, not just scenery. Cal’s conspiracy-minded personality and Brian’s old smuggler confidence create the sense of a community where everyone has a story about everybody else. That kind of social familiarity can make early missions feel smaller and more personal before the plot expands.

We do not know the exact island map
Rockstar has not published a complete island-by-island chart or every settlement name. Community mappers can place roads and coastlines with impressive precision, but the final boundaries and naming remain incomplete. This file uses Rockstar’s official region identity as the hard evidence and keeps finer map reconstruction separate.
The Keys could become one of GTA VI’s strongest driving regions
Low roads, bridges and open coastal stretches are naturally suited to high-speed movement. That does not confirm races or specific driving missions, but it gives Rockstar a different road language from downtown Vice City. If vehicle handling is one of GTA VI’s major improvements, the Keys are exactly the kind of place where that difference could be easy to feel.
The Extended Look can reveal how connected the region really is
A sustained drive or boat sequence could show whether the islands feel fragmented or continuous, how traffic behaves, how quickly players move between roads and water, and whether the region is dense with small businesses and homes or designed around longer stretches of travel. Those questions matter more than guessing the exact square mileage.

What the Keys add to the world map
The Leonida Keys are an officially confirmed GTA VI region and an important part of Jason Duval’s starting world. Rockstar has established the tropical geography, smuggling culture and local character network around the area. The exact island layout, activities and travel systems remain open, but the region already looks like one of the clearest examples of how Leonida can change mood without changing games.
